Between January 2014 and February 2015, the Sea Change – Tai Timu Tai Pari team was out and about in the Hauraki Gulf/Tikapa, asking questions and learning from those who know the Gulf best: its people, the ‘voices of the Gulf’.
Starting with the Listening Posts, then through events and the Love our Gulf campaigns, we talked with those for whom the Gulf provides a home, perhaps a livelihood – those who have deep understanding of its shapes, moods, opportunities and challenges. We talked with visitors. We talked with kids who see a bright future for the Gulf’s beaches and marine environments.
We were online as well, asking you to contribute your thoughts and ideas more formally through surveys, and through social media. Periodically, we checked in with our ‘Hauraki 100+’ group of close stakeholders, who helped us work through key issues and gave us additional insight into key moments in the process.
Throughout it all, we didn’t just talk: we kept a record of your input – analysing it as we went – identifying themes and pulling out some amazing suggested solutions. All of this data has been analysed and communicated through to the Sea Change – Tai Timu Tai Pari Stakeholder Working Group (SWG) to inform their thinking, as they prepare the Hauraki Gulf Marine Spatial Plan.
To each and every person who added their voice to this process: thank! Your contribution is vital as we work towards a Hauraki Gulf/Tikapa that is healthy, productive and sustainable.
